Dark Berry Beauty Secrets: Eileen Dautruche of

Eileen Dautruche of
Ms. Eileen and I go way back to being blogging buddies during my days as Secretista. She's been a beauty blogger for years and has even interned at Lancôme! Eileen's got a love affair with her Clarisonic that is endearing. With a flawless face and an eye for great lipstick choices, read on to find out how this blogging beauty keeps herself so divine!

Name: Eileen Dautruche
Occupation: Social Media Strategist and blogger at

As a beauty lover, there isn't one product I can't live without! However, if I must I'd say a really great moisturizer with SPF. I firmly believe that great skincare is the foundation for any beauty routine. The best thing in the world is being able to walk out of the house without any makeup on and still feel comfortable. I love La Roche-Posay's Anthelios 60 sunscreen (mixed with a bit of Darphin INTRAL Soothing Cream). It provides great coverage without being too heavy on the skin or make me look gray.

Other than a kick-ass skincare regimen, bold lipstick is my beauty secret! I'm wickedly obsessed with pink lipstick (long before Nicki Minaj came about). Pink is my red. It's fun, girly and a total mood lifter for me. I love MAC's Something New, which was limited edition and part of the Stylishly Yours collection. Other pinks I gravitate towards are MAC's Gladiola (another limited edition color), Pink Nouveau and NARS Schiap.

I begin by washing my face with Clean & Clear's Foaming Facial Cleanser; it's oil-free and removes any dirt or makeup that might have remained on my face from the night before. I love it because it doesn't dry out my face like some other cleansers I've tried in the past. I normally use this with my Clarisonic, a total gift from GOD if you ask me. It really digs deep without being abrasive. After cleansing, I use SK-II Facial Treatment Essence - full of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and organic acids - to wake me up. Next, I moisturize with the Anthelios 60 and Darphin combo I mentioned above. Sometimes, I'll apply eye cream (I alternate between Lumene's Time Freeze Instant Lift Eye Cream or Lancôme's Génifique Eye).

After my skin is all taken cared of, I move onto makeup. My everyday routine is pretty basic. I use foundation to even out my skintone (I'm currently using Maybelline's new Fit Me in 355) then set it with powder. I actually use NARS' bronzer in Laguna to set as it doesn't contain any shimmer and matches my skin perfectly. I love the look of matte skin and I achieve it perfectly. Next I line my eyes with Stila's stay all day waterproof liquid eye liner in black or Lancôme Artliner in Noir. Both of these guys stay put ALL DAY. I rarely use pencil liners (unless I'm lining my waterline). I find that the smudging gets to be annoying and who has time to touch up their eye makeup all day? I apply a bit of mascara (currently using Revlon's CustomEyes mascara in black). I love anything that will lengthen AND volumize (I want it all!). For blush I apply either NARS' Mata Hari or Illamasqua in Tweak.

Next up, I apply my lipcolor. Depending on the day it can either be a bold pink or red (love Revlon's Fire & Ice) OR the complete opposite and wear a neutral lip like MAC's Touch lipstick - a lovely cream brown that I think every woman of color has to own.

At night, it's pretty simple. I just remove everything I spent an hour or more applying that morning :). I use the same cleanser and toner (or Facial Treatment Essence as SK-II calls it), but I make sure to use the Clarisonic. I switch up my nightly moisturizer to either Cetaphil or Lumene's Sensitive touch Soothing Night Cream. Then I wrap my hair and jump into bed.

While I'm heavily into makeup, my hair game is slacking. I normally pay other people to deal with it! I go to the Dominican hair salon religiously every week or two to get a wash and set. I get a deep conditioning treatment at least once a month and I make sure to trim my ends every 7-8 weeks. Since I relax my hair (three times a year), it's important I keep up with managing my hair, meaning I wrap it at night and sleep on a silk pillowcase (SO worth it!). The friction between your hair and a cotton pillowcase can cause the hair to break. I try to not put anything in my hair as it can get VERY oily but every now and then I'll grease my scalp with good old Vaseline.

My biggest beauty don't in my book: lining lips with a dark lip pencil and then filling in with color. THIS ISN'T THE 90s and even then it still looked bad.

I either go for really clean fragrances or heavier, woody scents. My go to are Chloé Eau de Lavande, Balenciaga Paris and Juicy Couture Couture Couture. Right now I'm trying to get my hands on Chloé Love Chloé - I smelled it once and fell in love!

I say go bold or go home. If you're going to go through the work of putting it on, you might as well have fun with it. Rarely am I content with the natural look. Whenever that happens, that means I'm sad. So whether it's a fun eyeshadow or pink cheeks or red lips, I love color. I grew up thinking darker skin women shouldn't or can't wear bright colors without looking clownish. Now that I know that's a lie, I make it my mission to explore with as much color as possible.
