NAILS: A White Light Lifesaver

SpaRitual White Light
SpaRitual White Light & Nicole By OPI My Lifesaver
nails

I said I'd be playing with white nail polish all week, and I kept my promise! I'm really into painting my ring and pinky finger a different color than the rest of my nails right now, so I thought I'd try the look out with another very-summer color. The combination makes me feel like I'm on a cruise or somewhere tropic where the ocean is blue and not brown.

SpaRitual is one of my favorite nail lacquers. This white was easier to apply than CND's Brilliant White, which I wore a nail post ago. The brush for SpaRitual isn't nicely flat like the new Sally Hansen brushes. It's a tiny bristle brush that makes it easy for you to not get nail polish all over your skin. The colors are thick and bright, so only two or three layers is required. All in all, I really love this look. What do you think?

QOTD: Why do YOU apply makeup on the train?

Dear YOU,

Yeah, you. You're that girl applying her entire face as we all sit cramped on this bumpy train for our morning commute. I see that you like to use all Mac Cosmetics products, right down to your brush. There's nothing wrong with that. Really. I have no problem with what you are using, but with WHAT YOU ARE DOING. Why are you showing every person on this train how you go from fug to fabulous? WHY?! Putting on your face should be done at home or in the privacy of a bathroom, where the lighting is better than the dim fluorescent lights we are under. Also, do you really find your lap to be a sturdy enough place to hold your precious cargo aka your makeup? DO YOU?! Oh, you say you don't have time to put your makeup on before you leave the house? Well, that's your fault. Get up earlier or just don't wear makeup. I'd rather look at an undone face than worry about getting your blush dust all over my cream blouse.

Sincerely,
Me

SAVVY SPLURGE: I Got A Clarisonic!

clarisonic mia

A blogging friend of mine is OBSESSED with her Clarisonic. And after many years of living the broke college kid lifestyle, I finally managed to scrounge up enough money (read: I love being employed) to buy me a Clarisonic! I almost purchased my Clarisonic Mia—the compact easy to carry and travel with version of the original Clarisonic—from Sephora, but I rembered O.co is the place to go for online deals on ANYTHING. The Clarisonic Mia cost me $129.95 in comparison to its $150 price tag on Sephora.com.

After the first use of my Clarisonic, my skin felt tingly fresh. I used my face wash, then the cleanser that came in the box. I noticed that by using the cleanser provided, my skin was clearer and my makeup came off better than with my face wash. So far I'm liking it. I have yet to see my skin become less oily. But then again, I literally just started using my Clarisonic two days ago.

Do you have a Clarisonic? What do you think of yours?

TRY THIS NOW: An All-White Manicure!

cnd brilliant white
CND Brilliant White

This week, the nail color of choice I'll be highlighting is white. I absolutely love the color white. Always have. I think it's a classic and chic color and it goes well with anything. It's also the perfect color for a manicure... in the summer. I'm not sure if I'd rock an all-white mani in the fall, winter or spring, but I know for-sure it's a definite must-try for the hot-hot summer. White is a cool color that will lift your spirits on any one of those sticky sweat summer days.

Today I went with CND's Brilliant White. Apparently, it's an opaque color but I was not convinced. I had to paint my nails almost six or seven times until I got the vibrant shade of white I desired.

NAILS: OPI Steady As She Rose

OPI Steady As She Rose
OPI Steady As She Rose

Two days after I got my manicure, it all came off. My nail polish was peeling off in thick strips. I looked like I ran my painted nails through a wood chipper's mouth. I couldn't believe I had to redo my manicure. I couldn't believe I PAID someone to do my finger nails. Next time I go to the nail salon, I am sticking to pedicures.

Anyway, I decided to give OPI's Steady As She Rose a go. I was afraid it would be super sheer, but it turned out to be opaque. It's a gray/lavender color that is feminine and suited for a festive time like Easter.

QOTD: Do you replace your mascara every couple months?

mascara
All of my mascaras lined up.

It's well known that mascara has a shelf life of two to three months. However, I seem to own six different mascara bottles that I don't plan on getting rid of for a while. Each lash lacquer is different. One gives length, one gives volume, one gives separation and etc. What do you think? Am I the only one who owns more than one bottle of mascara? How long do you keep yours in your makeup box?

NAILS: A Weekend Trip To The Nail Salon

manicure
manicure

Over the weekend, my best friend and I headed to the nail salon for a mani/pedi date. I decided to let the manicurist not only do my toes, but also my finger nails. Sometimes, nothing beats the technique of a pure professional. I brought my own nail polish, Hey Sailor by China Glaze, to the nail salon because I luh-love this color. Our trip to the nail salon was much needed and we discovered that one of the manicurists does modern nail art. Guess where I'll be this weekend?...

Bejeweled Lips: Nice or No...

I'm currently addicted to Pressure by Nadia Ali, Starkiller & Alex Kenji. Nadia sports bejeweled lips in the music video above. They are a great artistic take on a bold lip color, but I don't think I could ever rock it. Costume or not.

TMI Thursday: Treating Funky Feet

funky feetT

I have a love/hate relationship with flats. They are a nice break from heels, but at the end of the day, my feet have a funky smell when I remove my shoes. To treat this, I used to spray powder on my feet before I slipped on my flat shoe of choice. However, that got a little messy because the good powder is thick and left my chocolaty skinned feet looking ashy. I then snatched a bottle of Freeman's Deodorizing Foot Spray. I spray it on before and after I wear my shoes. It provides odor and wetness protection AND is invisible. Give it a try if you can!

How do you treat your funky feet?

QOTD: What's the point of a facial mist?

mayawater facial mist

Really. What's the point? I know it's a great way to hydrate your face, but as a person who has skin that's more on the oily side, a facial mist is virtually unnecessary. What do you think? Do share...

Ice Cream Nails

ice cream nails

I'm wearing Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Green Tea and Terracotta because I am still on my two-toned nail polish binge. Except, this really isn't two-toned. It's more of a mix and match manicure. The mix of mint and chocolaty nude reminds me of ice cream. Mmm... ice... cream. I'm hungry now.

TRY THIS NOW: Bodycology Coconut Almond Exfoliating Body Scrub

Saturday night I used a body exfoliant for the first time ever. I usually use one for my face weekly, but when I snagged the Bodycology Coconut Almond Exfoliating Body Scrub, I knew I had to give it a try. My skin felt buttery smooth after scrubbing my body and watching the dirt and dead skin cells go down the drain. I seriously didn't think it was possible for my skin to feel any softer.

I am convinced that exfoliating is the best thing you can do for your skin (on a weekly basis). Abuse it and you'll have abrasions on the scrubbed area.

Do you use a body exfoliator? If so, which one?!

It's no secret I'm a big fan of Maybelline New York Lash Stiletto Voluptuous Mascara and Great Lash is pretty... GREAT too! It's BYOM - Bring Your Own Mascara.

TMI Thursday: Dealing With An Ingrown Hair

tmi thursday
An ingrown hair is when a growing hair is trapped underneath the skin. It is the result of shaving, waxing and basically removing hair from a particular area and is especially prevalent in your pubic area. I didn't really believe in ingrown hairs until I got the worst one (down there), ever. If it ever gets really bad, you're supposed to see a doctor and get antibiotics. But if you're not fond of the doctor, do what I did:

What I thought was just a tiny problem turned into something massive. The area of where the ingrown hair was located swelled up to the size of a golf ball and made walking a big ordeal. I tried everything. A warm/cold compress and tugging at the hair around the infected area. Nothing worked. I really just wanted it to pop (like a pimple) to get all the puss out and relieve the pressure.

After about 3 consistent days of warm/cold compresses, I decided to pop that sucker. I disinfected the area and a needle with alcohol and poked at the head of the ingrown hair. I broke skin and thick green puss slowly oozed out. It had a funky smell. Turned out I had an infected hair follicle. I probably should have seen a dermatologist to prevent the infection from spreading. Alas, I was OK.

From that day on, I decided to treat my skin post shave or wax. I usually use Bump & Blemish Triple Action Solution. It's got a mediciney scent, but is superb at preventing razor bumps and ingrown hairs. I definitely notice a difference in my skin when I don't use it. I also recently tried Bikini Zone Anti-Bumps Shave Gel. It has a fresh scent, is easy to apply and feels cool on the skin. This one is much more accessible, so it's probably your better bet.

Ingrown pubic hairs are the main reason I want a vagina facial.

Deal with your ingrown hair:
Use a warm/cold compress.
Tug the hair around infected area.
Disinfect your tools before you try to pop that sucker.
Be patient. It will take a day or two for it to explode.
Exfoliate the area to rid the dead skin cells.
After you shave/wax/whatever, use an ingrown hair prevention agent.

How do you deal with ingrown hairs?

When I don't feel like repainting...

I'm on a two-toned nail polish kick and still testing out all the nail lacquers I haven't worn. I'm not so sure I like this combination. They are both strange a variations of orange. (See below.) However, I don't feel like repainting my nails. Does that ever happen to you? You paint your nails and you realize you don't really like the color, but you're too lazy and pressed for time to remove and repaint? Yeah. That's me this week.

NAILS: China Glaze Peachy Keen

Peachy Keen China Glaze

This is one of the nail lacquers I picked up in my Ulta Beauty haul. For me, peach is a great substitute for pink nail polish. I'm not a huge fan of wearing pink... anything (thank my inner tomboy). So, peach is perfect. It's also the ultimate summer nail color, no?

BEAUTY SECRETS REVEALED: Emily Gaynor, Glamour magazine Freelance Beauty Assistant

Emily Gaynor

I first met Emily two years ago when we were both interning at Teen Vogue. We bumped into each other while leaving the S/S 2010 Cynthia Rowley show where a reporter asked us for our opinion on the collection. Simultaneously, we uttered the same words. Ding! Did we just become best friends?! Yes.

Emily is a recent grad, a Freelance Beauty Assistant at Glamour magazine... and a close friend. So since DBB is taking a new direction, I thought it would be great to interview my girl Em (a total beauty buff) about her beauty secrets. It was also an excuse to have a girl-date.

Perfect Nails with Nutra Nail Instant Smudge Repair

Pre Nutra Nail Instant Smudge Repair

Post Nutra Nail Instant Smudge Repair

I remember the first time I stumbled upon a bottle of Nutra Nail Instant Smudge Repair. It was during my latest beauty internship. A package of Nutra Nail products came in and I was intrigued. I snagged a bottle to keep hold and even submitted a story on it to my editors. Unfortunately, it wasn't picked up.

However, I'm here now to share my first encounter with the product:

I finished painting my nails when my cell phone rang. I turned to get it, slammed my hand into my dresser, looked down at my hand and shrieked in horror! I smudged the nail polish on my index and middle finger.

I huffed and puffed because I didn’t have time to redo my nails. But then, I remembered I had Nutra Nail’s Instant Smudge Repair in the box where I keep all my nail lacquers.

Skittishly, I dabbed the Instant Smudge Repair on my nails. A second (literally) later the abrasions were visibly gone. I could not believe it. Crisis, averted.

Something similar happened earlier this week. I painted my two-toned finger nails and once they were dry (or I thought), I went to bed. The next morning, I woke up and my nails were engraved with thread marks from my sheets. GRR! I used a bottle of the smudge repair and PRESTO, CHANGO! My nails were back to a smooth texture.

Nutra Nail’s Instant Smudge Repair is currently my go-to item when I want to repair a messed up manicure. But, do you know of another way to repair a freshly smudge manicure?

OBSESSED: Salads

salad
I can't explain. I really don't know why I'm so obsessed with salads right now. All I know is I've been eating one for lunch and dinner (sometimes) everyday for the past month. It's not even because I am trying to lose weight. I literally CRAVE salads. Who am I?

Growing up I hated salads. I called them rabbit food. Now I not only eat rabbits, I eat their food too. Har, har. Just kidding. I haven't eaten a rabbit. This year.

I discovered how great they were my last semester in college. So broke, and interning my brain out, I would buy a salad the night before, eat half and eat the rest for lunch the next day at work.

A salad is a great way to get all the nutrients you might be missing in a day, if you're not a vitamin junkie like me. My main focus when I make a salad isn't the calorie count, but the things I put in it; broccoli, peas, beans, grilled chicken, carrots, hard boiled egg, and etc.

Do you like salads?

TMI Thursday: How do you carry your pads and tampons?

Starting a new segment here on DBB called TMI Thursdays. It'll be where I share a little TOO MUCH INFORMATION. My close friends think I share too much information about bodily functions, but I can't help it. I'm very, very comfortable talking about how to take the best shadooby ever and how many times you should fart in one day (15 by the way). But ANYWAY, this is my blog and hopefully we can all learn about something together here on TMI Thursdays.

I've got heavy periods. Always have and I probably always will. It's OK. It's part of being a woman, right? To make sure the Niagra Falls that's happening down under stays controlled, I usually opt for Always Infinity Overnight Pads. SERIOUSLY. If you have not tried Always Infinity line, then you don't know what you're missing out on. The pad literally sucks up the blood (was that too graphic for you? Deal with it.) and you feel dry between your legs as the rapid red sea flows. This pad also does wonders at preventing leaks.

While I was shopping at Target, I went to grab my favorite pack of pads and noticed it came with a carrying case (pictured above). I didn't need the case, but I had no choice but to buy that specific box. I actually tried using the carrying case for a while, but it was just too bright and OBVIOUS that I was carrying pads in that thing. After using it for a week or two, I decided to go back to using my Dooney & Bourke wristlet I got as a present in high school. It's classier and certainly more discreet.

Anyway, I'm wondering. How do you carry your feminine products? Is there a special case you use?

Playing with my blue lacquers, I did an accidental ombre hand. I liked it so much I decided to do the same thing to my right hand. I don't know if ombre is the right name for it. Two-set-colored nails? The "ombre" isn't exactly like this one I did back in May.

China Glaze is a nail lacquer company I'm addicted to right now. The rest of my lovelies are great, but really. CHINA GLAZE HAS STOLEN MY HEART (cue Dashboard Confessional tune)!! This color is Hey Sailor. It's a bright red, but to my naked eye, has a subtle pinkish tint.

OBSESSED: Vitafusion

vitafusion
It's no secret I'm in love with Vitafusion gummy vitamins for adults. But, I think I've crossed the line. I'M OBSESSED. OBSESSED! Everyday I take Multi Vites, Power C and Calcium. I recently added the Fiber and Daily Immune gummies to my morning supplement intake. Do I really need it? I'm not sure. All I know is my health has improved since taking Vitafusion gummy vitamins. It has been over a year since I last got sick. This is a big deal for me because I honestly get sick twice a year like clock work.

Thanks for improving my health Vitafusion!!

NAILS: I've got the Himalayan Blues

Himalayan Blue Sally Hansen
Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Himalayan Blue

Rummaging through my gigantic nail polish stash, I noticed I had a substantial amount of blue lacquers. Being that I've worn most of them, I decided to try the remaining blues.

Today on DBB I'm wearing Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Himalayan Blue. It's a really rich baby blue. And because it's a "Complete Salon Manicure," my nail polish didn't chip for SEVEN days.

How do you apply eyeliner?

me and eyeliner
While hanging out with a couple of my best girlfriends one night, the conversation turned to eyeliner. My two best friends mentioned they don't apply eyeliner on their bottom eyelid. I was the outcast who prefered applying the black stuff on my bottom lid only.

I'm sure many ladies apply eyeliner on their bottom eyelids too, but I couldn't help but wonder how most women apply eyeliner. I guess it also depends on what type of look you are going for, because if you're a cat eye lover like Amy Winehouse (RIP), then you only apply it on the top.

How do you apply eyeliner?
