My 5 Beauty Resolutions for 2012

beauty resolutions
Woohoo! 2012 is almost here!!

With the New Year approaching, I've got a couple beauty resolutions I want to keep:

1. Clean my makeup brushes every week, not every 6 months or... never.

2. Stick to my juice cleanse/reboot for at least 30 days.

3. Get at least 8 hours of sleep at night.

4. Drink more water.

5. Keep up with Bikram Yoga.

Watching Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead Changed My Life

fat sick and nearly dead
A while ago, a good friend suggested I watch a movie called Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. Not ashamed of my body image issues and constant search to be healthiest I can be, I put that movie on my must-watch list.

Last night I finally watched it and I am so happy I did. I've heard of juice cleanses, but never actually witnessed someone go through it. I always thought they were crock shit and just something celebrities did to get fit for a role.

In this movie, Joe Cross goes on a journey to reboot his health. He drinks nothing but fruit/veggie juice that he blended for 90 days! I watched him go from taking almost 10 different type of medications daily to control his autoimmune disease, to taking nothing. Obviously he can't drink juice for the rest of his life, so after he was done, he changed the way he ate. Eating more micronutrients: vegetables, fruit, nuts and beans.

Tomorrow night I am going out and getting myself a juice blender and then hitting up the grocery store for fresh fruit and veggies. I can't wait until the New Year to start my juice cleanse. I need to start it immediately!! It's important to consult a doctor before doing a cleanse, but I'm not. I've been to so many doctors lately that I'm well aware of what my health looks like and what my "numbers" are. I'm aiming for healthy and skinny. My doc took one look at my neck and was like, "You have a fat neck that needs to go." And it will be gone.

I'm officially addicted to imPRESS-on nails!

press on nails

Remember when I told you guys about my new love for these press-on nails?! WELL. I'm addicted. The nails lasted SEVEN days and the removal and application process was so quick and easy. This color I'm wearing is Call My Agent. I'm not saying I will never paint my nails again (I have way too many nail polishes.), but I've found a great alternative to nail lacquer and I LOVE it.

New Toner: Tend Skin

 Tend Skin Liquid

When the Pathmark supermarket in my town went out of business, I was devastated. Not because it was my go-to shop for all my savory necessities, but because Pathmark is the only place I know that carries Skin Tight. This is my toner of choice and the one thing that keeps my skin almost zit free.

So last month I was getting a perm and I ranted to my hairdresser about how I can't find Skin Tight anywhere. (I couldn't find any trusted providers online, so I was not going to take a chance with buying a bottle on the web.) Ron threw a bottle of Tend Skin my way and said, "It's pretty much the same thing."

Tend Skin is generally used for unsightly razor bumps, ingrown hairs and razor burn. It's slightly less natural than Skin Tight because it has a tiny aspirin agent. But, I'm loving what Tend Skin is doing to my complexion. The best part is that it can be found on!

Would you wear press-on nails?

impress press on nails impress press on nails

Last week I revisited a childhood pastime of mine. I gave myself a press-on manicure! I know what you're thinking, "What? Why?! So tacky! They don't last!"

Well my lovelies, that's what I thought until I tried Impress Press-on Manicure. It's a revolutionary new way to apply polish (Is it really considered polish if it's a plastic nail??). Anyway, I was impressed (har-har) at how easy, quick and long lasting the nails are. It's day 5 and my nails are still on very strong.

I went out with friends this past weekend and the girls couldn't believe how REAL my nails looked because they are the perfect length, when compared to my Lady Gaga glue-on nails. This color is a little too bright for winter, but I think I might be a convert to press-on nails. I will say that I do keep a box of nails with me in case a nail pops off at an inconvenient time. But, that hasn't happened!

christina ly

Two years ago I met Christina Ly. We became instant online friends and then real-life close friends. Xtina—as I like to call her—is a college graduate with an inquisitive mind and a kind soul who's a kid at heart. She's excited about life and that's what I love about her. As you read about her beauty secrets you'll see that even though her skin may sometimes resemble a pubescent teen, she's got a positive attitude about her skincare and beauty regime.

Can you mix foundations?

I use a mineral foundation, but I've been curious about combining liquid or cream with mineral. I thought about using a liquid or cream foundation as a base and then using a mineral foundation over it. Is that a crazy idea? What's the best liquid/cream foundation out there?

Battle of The Fast Drying Top Coats

fast drying top coat

A while ago, I ranted on Twitter about my Extending Top Coat and Polish Drying Accelerator from Qtica not drying quick enough. A bunch of my followers told me to try Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat or Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat.

I finally got the chance to try both and they both have their pros and cons. However, they are both really great and it all depends on your preference.

Revlon Quick Dry Top Coat
Dries within seconds
Doesn't have a strong smell
Costs around $6
Nail polish chips after 4 to 5 days

Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat
Dries within a minute
Has a really strong smell
Costs around $9
Nail polish chips after 7 days

The choice is yours! Another really great fast drying top coat is the Super Dry Top Coat from bigRuby.

BUY IT: Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle

sally hansen nailssally hansen nails

This isn't just any regular manicure. This is a mani that will help my nails grow! Having long nails has been something I could never really achieve. My nails would always reach a certain length then break. I gave the Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle a go and so far I'm loving the results. My nails seem to grow very quick, even after I cut them. With the exception of a couple nails on fingers I use obsessively, my nails have grown past the normal breaking point.

I've really become impressed with Sally Hansen products over the past couple years. They have stepped up their nail formula game and has gone from a brand I would bypass to one I go straight to. Needless to say, the Sally Hansen Nailgrowth Miracle is a must try!

What are your secrets to achieve nail growth?

Growing Out My Eyebrows: The Progress

It's been three weeks since I last waxed my eyebrows.

I've been growing out my eyebrows ever since the lady at the nail salon I normally go to f!@ked them up. I'm not happy with the progress. It's going rather slow and I have bald spots, which is probably caused by the continuous waxing since the age of 13. I just want my beautifully shaped thick eyebrows back! It kills me that I might have to go another 30 days with bushy eyebrows, but I have no choice. And when I see my ladies at the salon, I am going to be very stern with how I want my eyebrows to look.

And if you're wondering what I'm so pissed about, just look at the picture above. The eyebrow on your left is shaped slightly thinner than the one on your right.

How To Fix A Tissue Burned Nose

cucumber face peel
Wearing a peel-off mask. Scary, huh?
Sorry for not posting this past week. I got sick or had an allergy attack (not sure which one it was). All I know is I had a stuffy nose, could barely breathe, excessive sneezing, snot dripping out of my nose and a fever. I was taking cold medicine and that didn't do anything. Then I bought allergy pills and my symptoms subsided almost instantly.

After a full week of nonstop tissue blowing, the skin around my nose became very, very dry and crusty. I probably could have used softer tissues, but with the amount of snot I needed to clean out of my nasal passages, the softest tissue would still burn the outside of my nostrils.

Fed up with seeing the dry skin and burn marks around my nose, I reached for my Freeman's Feeling Beautiful Cucumber Facial Peel-Off Mask last night and went to town. The results were a smooth nose, where the skin had been properly re-hydrated.

Tissue burn marks, gone!
