How many unfinished beauty products do you have?

I was brushing my teeth the other day, looked down at the counter and noticed that I had four unfinished mask bottles, two unused volume sprays and three packets of unused pore strips.

Seriously, wtf? I'm a beauty hoarder. I know.

However, I have decided that in 2012 I am hoarding no more! How will I solve this? I am either going to give away products I know I will never use, or force myself to use one specific product until it is finished. And then maybe... I'll use these beauty coupons to buy more products!

I'll call this my BEAUTY PRODUCT FINISH CHALLENGE 2012. Will you join me? :)

I used the InStyler today and loved it. I've read mixed reviews, but for me it works! It made my hair less frizzy and silky smooth. I also had that volume I die for, dahling. It only took me 8 minutes to do my whole head. Watch my video review above and read my full review here.

NAILS: Orange Tips & White Polka Dots

I've got a confession. I paint my nails right before I go to bed. Thanks to my Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat, the paint on my nails is dry within minutes and I don't have to worry about the inevitable bed sheet smudge.

I've been playing around with new nail art. Can't believe I never did polka dot nails. I'm also really into a clear nail with a colored tip right now. A look I first noticed on my old Physical Therapist. The key to having a great looking tip is not trying to curve the polish with your nail. Just paint it straight across and clean it up with a second coat of polish.

Mistakes To Not Make on A Juice Cleanse

After my juice cleanse failed miserably, I realized the mistakes I made. And now that I know where I went wrong, I won't let it happen again. Here's where I failed:

1. I didn't ease myself into the cleanse. I started cold turkey. The night before, I stuffed my face with all types of finger food from a New Year’s Eve party. "I'm starting a cleanse tomorrow, so I can eat all I want," I told my friends. The next day, food was all I could think about.

2. I didn't drink enough water. Even though I was guzzling nutrient-rich juice, I forgot to chug tons of water. Water not only fills you up, but it also helps flush impurities out of the body. Because I wasn't drinking enough water, I frequently succumbed to feelings of hunger.

3. I didn't drink enough juice. Fruits and vegetables are very expensive. I would spend $60 at the grocery store for two days worth of juice supplies. So, to weaken the financial blow, I would sip two juices a day instead of the suggested three to five — about 40 ounces instead of 120. Combined with too little water, this was a recipe for disaster.

Take my advice and go forward with your cleansing my loves.

There's Lead in Lipstick? - TEAM LIPSTAIN!

There isn't enough in it to kill you, but that's all the more reason for you to wear lipstains instead. I hate lipstick. I love lipstains because they are light and don't come off. Lipstains won't stain your drinking cup nor straw and come in rich colors. Seriously ah-mazing.

I've talked about my grapple with lipstick on here before... But in a nutshell, I had a traumatic event where I drank out of my mother's lipstick stained water bottle. I used to be a germaphobe as a kid and this horrified me. I was thirsty and had no choice but to drink from my mama's water bottle. Blech. Forever changed my view on lipstick. I'll be a lipstick-phobe until the end of time.

I did recently buy some lipsticks for the sake of this blog post, and now I have lipstick I will never use. Guess I better get a small canvas and start drawing.

My Favorite Conditioner: Nexxus Humectress

nexxus conditioner

"You've got breakage in the back," said my hair dresser on Saturday as he picked at my hair.
"Yeah, I've been lazy. Not using the correct conditioner...and I've been using Head & Shoulders shampoo."

DBB TIP: Don't be lazy with your hair care!

Head & Shoulders is a great shampoo. It combats my dandruff problem, but makes my hair super dry. In the past, to counteract this driness, I would use Nexxus Humectress conditioner and deep conditioner. It did wonders. I've never had silkier hair, ever. Well...except when fresh out the salon chair. It's one of the best and I highly recommend it. I'm going to go out an snag me a bottle very soon so I can stop having breakage!

What's your favorite conditioner?

Pink Press-On Nails

press-on nails
It really is no secret I am obsessed with these press-on nails. Prior to my stiletto nails that are here to stay for the next 20+ days, I decided to try on a hot pink nail. I must admit, the nails did pop-off before the week was over. I didn't prep my nails with acetone nail polish remover, so that and my constant typing didn't allow all the finger nails to stay on. Either way it was fun having hot pink nails for a bit.

I've got another sleep study tonight...

So remember when I told you it was discovered I have sleep apnea? My doc decided it would be best if I had another sleep study done while on the night-time treatment. The treatment involves a machine that goes over my mouth and nose, and forces air into my lungs as I sleep. This should be interesting...

juice recipe
1 box of strawberries
1 box of blueberries
1 box of blackberries

The last time I concocted up some juice was about a month ago. This means my fruit/veggies had been sitting in the fridge for a couple weeks. To stop them from going bad, I grabbed my berries and made a drink I'll call Berry Blast! Exclamation point necessary. I think I'll add an apple, a lemon or grapes next time. The taste was a little more on the tart side...and I like my drinks sweeeeeeet!

Do you sleep with your makeup on?

daily cleansing cloths

Unless you wear mineral makeup, you should always take off your face before you go to bed. But let's be real, we all get lazy sometimes. I'm usually a good girl when it comes to my night-time routine, but last week I was so exhausted that almost everyday I went to bed with my makeup on. Or, I used a cleansing cloth (pictured above) to wipe my face clean. Sleeping with your makeup on is not something I recommend. It's important to get all the bacteria that built up during the day out of your face. But if you get lazy now and again, just make sure you use a cleansing cloth.

Why I Relax My Hair (AND LOVE IT)

For those who aren't familiar with black hair, it has natural kinks at the roots that make it "nappy." And in order to straighten these kinks and make the hair relaxed, many black women get perms. This is something I do every four months...I think. I'm not quite sure how long I usually wait between perms, but I know I wait as long as possible until my next relaxer out of pure laziness. But also, I like not getting a perm so often because it's not good for the scalp.

While getting a perm can be painful and detrimental to my scalp, I love it because my hair is easy to manage and comb through. I'm tender-headed, folks. I also think I practice perming a healthy way. My hair dresser and I have been working together on my hair for over 10 years, so he knows how sensitive my skin is to the relaxer. I use a base before I perm and the relaxer is not in my hair for too long. He also makes sure he gets the perm as close to my roots as possible without touching my scalp. We have this perfected.

Anyway, over the past couple years, there has been a recent movement of black women cutting their hair and going natural. I think it's great! You know, the whole embracing the natural side of your hair and forgoing the pain of a perm. Or, if you want to get all political... It's great that many black women don't feel the need to conform to the standard of beauty that leans to the European side.

I'm not one to get all political and etc, but many believe that black women get their hair relaxed to achieve a hair style that is "more white." Although, I would beg to differ. Dealing with kinky roots is a pain in the butt! So if you're up for the challenge, more power to ya!

Needless to say, I feel like the new war in the black community will soon be natural vs relaxed because sometimes I feel like women with natural hair go out of their way to make us girls with relaxed hair feel bad or like we are "betraying" our people by remaining relaxed. (This could all be something I'm internalizing and blowing out of proportion, so please let me know your thoughts in the comments below.) The complexities of black hair are far too difficult for me to try and delve into, so I can only speak for myself.

In addition, a recent article on the Huffington Post brushed over the fact that many black women aren't exercising for the sake of ruining their perms. I for one am not one of those black women. HELLO, I'm a bikram yoga lover. I find this very, very interesting though. Are you a black woman that doesn't exercise as frequently as you should because of your hair?

Do you wear liquid eyeliner? I think I like it!

So I decided to give liquid eyeliner a try for real. I played with it for a bit in high school, but didn't see the greatness in it until now.

Last week I put a thin line of black liquid eyeliner on my top eyelid. I chose Revlon's ColorStay because I LOVE REVLON! Instantly, I noticed a difference in my eyes. They looked more open and my dark brown eyes became lighter. I thought my eyes were deceiving me, but when I went to work, one of my coworkers complimented me on my eye makeup.

I think I'll stick with this look for a while.

Do you use liquid eyeliner? Have you also noticed it opens up your eyes?

Remember when I said I wanted to try stiletto nails (you know, trying to be like Beyoncé.)? After I put up that post, I asked my Twitter followers where I could get them done. One of them led me to Valley Nails NYC.

I immediately booked an appointment for Saturday Feb. 11th and didn't think twice. When I arrived, I thought I would use a dress from one of the Fall 2012 shows as inspiration. After my nail technician was done, we both agreed that the design just didn't work.

Since I already had white gel nail polish as my base, we decided to just go with black triangular tips. I really didn't want to have a similar style to Rihanna's nails in her You Da One video...but whatever. I actually wish I chose a solid color because these nails cost me about $100! YES. ONE HUNDRED DOLLARS. I will get my $100 worth, even if that means wearing my nails for an entire month with a couple touch ups here and there.

The nails used on me are what's called the Valley Nail Set. These fancy finger nails are custom fit to cover the entire nail bed. I asked my nail technician to file them down as short as possible because I am a blogger after all and typing/texting is just...so...hard.

Everything Has Sodium - WHAT DO I EAT THEN?!

The CDC recently released a statement that said that 9 in 10 people eat too much sodium and that there is sodium in too many common foods. Things like like bread, pasta dishes, pizza, processed poultry, soups, tomato juice and the list goes on. Well then gee, what's a girl to eat?!

Fresh foods that is. However, it's not that easy to always eat organic and fresh. Healthy foods are expensive and when I did my juice cleanse, I almost went broke. I would go through $60 of fruit/veggies in two days.

So what's the solution to this? I'm not sure, but I am going to be watching what I eat more carefully.

What do you think of all this? Will this make you watch what you eat?

Trend I Want To Try: Stiletto Nails

stiletto nails
Rihanna's nails in her You Da One music video

For a while I noticed a trend; stiletto nails aka pointy nails. These are usually donned by Beyoncé and Rihanna. I thought they looked dumb. I mean really, who wants pointy nails? Nevertheless, I think the look has grown on me. I was watching Riri's music video You Da One (you know, the one where she feels the need to continuously grab her lady bits), and I was really intrigued by the nails pictured above.

Would you give up bread?

Where's the bread?!
I've got a secret. Earlier this week I decided to give up bread for the next 6 months. I know. Crazy. I LOVE MY WHOLE WHEAT BAGELS, AND PIZZA...AND DAMN IT. I JUST LOVE BREAD SO MUCH!!

I especially eat a lot of whole wheat bread. But do we really need bread in our diet? Whole grain bread is filled with lectins and phytic acid, which can reduce your body's ability to absorb nutrients.

The idea behind my little experiment is to force myself to replace where I would eat bread with fruit and vegetables. So instead of a bagel for breakfast, I'm going to eat fruit or drink fresh juice, with my oatmeal.

Oh, and what about sandwiches? Well, I'm not really a sandwich girl for starters but I've actually just been eating the deli meat (pictured left) by itself. I do love meat.

Would you give up bread?

TMI THURSDAY: I Decided to Go on Birth Control

To control my heavy period flow caused by my Polycystic Ovaries, my doc prescribed me the birth control pill Aviane. So far it's been great, except for the side effect of bigger boobs. This is a big problem.

I love having small ta-tas and having bigger ones is not something I desire. Seriously. I've witnessed a couple friends go through breast reductions and that is something I do not want for myself. I know I am being dramatic. My breasts aren't going to become ginormous overnight, but still!

Anyway, I've noticed that the pill made my flow lighter...until the 4th day. After that it was like a bloody Niagara Falls. Womp. Maybe next month my heavy flow will be more controlled. I'm really not trying to have another Anemic attack infused with dizzy spells and excruciating headaches.

Are you on the pill? Which one do you like?

P.S. Pfizer has recalled 1 million packs of birth control pills!

Taming The Lady Mustache with Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo

I finally got the chance to try the Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo and I like it! It doesn't have a strong odor, and the process is quick and easy. It did remind me a little bit of Nair, but softer. The last time I used a Nair product, was on my armpits (HELLO, HORRIFIC MOMENT IN MY LIFE!!).

Here's how you use the Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo:

•Use the Skin Guarding Balm by applying it with the stick.

•Massage the balm into your skin.

•Use your finger to place a thick layer of the Hair Removal Cream.

•6-8 minutes later you'll see the hair rise to the surface of the cream.

•Use a tissue to whip it off and then rinse the area.

VERDICT: It's a keeper and prob better than my Veet face wax strips.
