My Second Trip To The Benefit Brow Bar

She handed me the mirror and I said to myself, "I guess I got my swagga back (in Jay-Z's voice)." She being the beautician at the Benefit Brow Bar.

The last time she did my eyebrows, we kept them super thick. It just didn't feel right. For months after I thought, "Why do I not look like myself?" I knew it was the brows. (In my opinion, your eyebrows make or break your face.)

I went back to the brow bar and said, "I want my eyebrows to look like yours."

"Mhm, you want an arch!" She said.

"Yes. I want tude."

It was like watching a mad scientist. She went to work, waxing, tweezing and brushing. When I looked in the mirror, I knew that was the Dara brow I was looking for. Best $30 spent.

Taking a Bikram Yoga 30 Day Challenge

Can I do this? I'm not sure, but I will try hard. As you know, I love me some Bikram Yoga. It's the only form of exercise where I've seen real body and mind results. I also like getting all hot and sweaty. Ha. Anyway, Bikram Yoga NYC is having a 30 Day Challenge that I am going to sign up for. I really want to do 30 days of Bikram. If I can do this, then I know I can motivate myself to slow down and take care of myself. Wish me luck!

Do you prep your eyebrows before you tweeze?

beauty fixation pre tweeze treatment

Last week I found myself staring at my eyebrows in the mirror thinking, "LOOK AT THESE CATERPILLARS!" It's been a while since my last eyebrow grooming session. Ever since my trip to the Benefit Brow Bar, I've been able to maintain the new thick shape of my brows. However, I'm not sure I like the shape anymore. I don't want super thin eyebrows, but I just don't feel like my current brows are giving enough tude. I've got a diva-esque personality and I want my eyebrows to match.

Anyway. I decided to clean up my brows last week and went for my Beauty Fixation Pre-Tweeze Treatment to numb the skin around the hairs. This treatment includes double-sided cotton swabs that are filled with a topical pain reliever and antiseptic. You break one side of the swab and it releases the numbing formula into the other cotton swab's head. You then apply it to the skin before you start tweezing.

I remember being a kid and watching my mother do her own eyebrows. She used to put Vaseline on the skin where she wanted to tweeze. I followed in her footsteps and did that for a while. It really does make plucking the hairs easier, but is also quite messy. Using the Beauty Fixation Pre-Tweeze Treatment swabs is not as messy and makes tweezing less ouch-able.

WTF: My Cleanser is Making My Face Peel!

Back in November I purchased a new facial cleanser from Philosophy called Purity. I am a fan of Philosophy. I swear by their lip treatment, buying at least two every time I go to Sephora. So when I saw my face began to peel and have dry patches, I was sure it wasn't my face wash. After all, I did (and still do) trust Philosophy. I then decided to take a break from using Purity to use my other favorite cleanser; Olay's Shine Control Lathering Cleanser. I noticed my face wasn't peeling anymore, nor was my skin dry. After using Olay for a month, I went back to Purity and within 5 days my skin was dry and peeling. I've come to the verdict that Purity just isn't for my skin. I think I'll use it once a month and not on a daily basis.

Argh. Don't you just hate it when a product you love turns out to not work for you?

The Best Primer I Have Ever Used: Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer

Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer

I recently switched primers. I went from using Boscia Skin Perfecting Primer to Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer and I love, LOVE, LOVE it.

The formula for this primer is super soft and goes on smooth. After just one use I noticed my skin was radiant and that my foundation sat evenly on my face. I wear Bare Escentuals so I naturally look like I'm not wearing any makeup. Add the Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer, and my complexion appears flawless. FLAW-LESS.

The best part is my foundation doesn't easily rub off. I used the primer over the weekend before heading to a party where I was you know, breaking it down on the dance floor, sweating my perm out, and guess what? My makeup stayed on my face. I wasn't afraid to take pictures without a mirror check.

The primer is $32, but totally worth it. A good primer is hard to come by. And ladies, we need all the help we can to keep our foundation on our face and off our neckline.

Needless to say, I don't go a day without using Estée Lauder Illuminating Perfecting Primer before I apply my makeup.

Getting Rid of Dark Spots with StriVectin-EV Get Even Spot Repair

StriVectin-EV Get Even Spot Repair

About a month ago I started using StriVectin-EV Get Even Spot Repair pen, and I'm happy to report that 4 weeks later my dark spots have visibly faded. THIS is so exciting to me!

I've tried every dark spot correcting product under the sun. Seriously.

The products I have tried include:
-Neutrogena Advanced Solutions Acne Mark Fading Peel
-Neutrogena Rapid Clear 2-in-1 Fight & Fade Gel
-Bio Oil
-Mederma Scar Cream plus SPF 30
-The Microdelivery Purifying Peel (I use this every now and then still)
-Black Opal Advanced Dual Complex Fade Gel Sensitive Skin Formula.

I've also tried products that weren't specifically made to correct your dark spots, but aided the fading process; such as, Witch Hazel, Skin Tight and Freeman's Cucumber Peel-Off Mask. Yeah. I am serious about my skin complexion. Needless to say, I am beyond ecstatic that the StriVectin-EV Get Even Spot Repair pen is actually working for me. It works on old spots, as well as, freshly made marks.

It's a little pricey, but can be found at for $49. I know. THAT'S STEEP! It's almost $50 bucks, but trust me. IT. IS. WORTH. EVERY. PENNY.

This product is so gentle on my sensitive skin and all I do is apply it twice a day over the targeted areas after I moisturize.

I always share products I love with you guys, but this product has changed my life. It has made me more confident! I'm not afraid to go makeup less because I don't feel self-conscious about my dark spots.

Do you have a must-try dark spot corrector product?

TRY IT: A Shot of Broccoli in The Morning

broccoli shot Raw Broccoli has 135 percent Vitamin C and 4 percent Iron.

Yesterday morning I decided to use my juicer and make a shot. For some reason I thought it would give me energy and boost my iron intake for the day. Being that I'm Anemic and etc., I need as much iron in my system as I can get. The broccoli shot was chased with a 16 oz. glass of 2 oranges, 2 red delicious apples, and 6 carrots. 'Twas delish.

Bubble Gum Blue with Nails Inc. Haymarket

nails inc. haymarket

The hot weather has me feeling all types of joy! Makes me think I might have seasonal depression. Ha, just kidding. I recently discovered nails inc. I'm not too fond of how strong the nail polish smells, but the colors are divine! This one is called Haymarket. It's the perfect spring color, and kind of like a bubble gum blue. What do you think?

UPDATE: Using Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo

Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo
A month ago I used Olay Facial Hair Removal Duo and I'm in love. My unwanted upper lip hair took about a month to return. And unlike waxing, I didn't get unsightly bumps post hair removal. This is one product I am never getting rid of!

Tip From My Hair Dresser: The InStyler Could Break Your Hair

Say what? My hair dresser came over to my house this past weekend (he makes house calls!), and he mentioned he saw my review on the InStyler. His response: "Thanks for calling me out on YouTube!! Oh, and that thing might break your hair."

What, whaattt?! I mean, that is expected I guess. You have to take precaution with any hot tool you use. I haven't been using the InStyler everyday. I only use it after I blow dry my hair, and I only do that about every five days.

NAILS: Spring Fever - nails inc. Carnaby Street

nails inc carnaby street

The weather is getting warmer and I've got slight Spring Fever. Well, at least my nails do. In all honesty, I hate Spring. Pollen, dust, flowers, INSECTS...please. Let's fast forward to Fall. Alas, my nails are feeling the sudden temperature rise in this poppy yellow lacquer from nails inc. called Carnaby Street.

To get this color, I had to apply three coats. This is my second go with nails inc.; the first time I tried their magnetic polish. There's no blog post about it because it didn't work and I was gravely disappointed. Nails inc. polish is not cheap. A friend of mine said I could return the magnetic polish to Sephora and I'll get my money back. Although, I haven't tried to return it so I'm not sure if Sephora will take it back.

Anyway, I may have had to apply three coats of polish, but I really like this color.

What do you think?

Sleep Apnea Stories: I have to sleep with a mask?

sleep apnea mask

A couple weeks ago, I had my second sleep study. I slept with the mask pictured above.

When the technician first placed the mask on my face, I went into panic mode. I felt like I couldn't breathe and I thought I was going to die. I know. I'm dramatic. She told me to relax and turned on the machine (CPAP), which the mask was attached to. Turns out, the CPAP shoots out oxygen to keep air flowing through my lungs as I sleep. After a night's rest, I loved it. I felt refreshed and wide awake. Until I am able to lose weight and get rid of the fat on my neck that is basically constricting my air path as I sleep, I'll be using the CPAP.

Now, I won't be sleeping with a mask. My doc ordered a machine with two tubes that I'll stick up my nose. Much more efficient than a mask.

Good news, my sleep apnea isn't that bad. I'm just happy to take care of my health now while I'm young and have health insurance. Seriously. I went a couple years without it (HELLO, broke college kid) and will never take it for granted ever again.

Why My Teeth Are So White

Over the weekend I have brunch with a couple of my girlfriends. When I sat down, greeting one of them with a smile, her first words were, "Hey-WHOA! Your teeth are so white. Sorry, I'm happy to see you, but I am so distracted right now."

Smiling and pleased that my new teeth whitening regime was working, I proceeded to tell her my secret; Listerine Total Care Plus Whitening. You're supposed to use twice a day, but I only use it once a day. It burns and sometimes feels like torture. Oh, the things I'll do for white teeth. I'm really pleased with the results I've been getting and truly see a visible difference after rinsing.

I have a tendency to harbor mouthwash for months upon months, and using Listerine at least one a day is part of my BEAUTY PRODUCT FINISH CHALLENGE. I am determined to take hold of multiple teeth whitening mouthwashes. (That's plural because I currently have a Rembrandt teeth whitening mouthwash standing right next to me. Unused.) No hoarding in 2012!!

Anyway, what do you use to keep your teeth white?

NAILS: Glittery Green Tips

colored tips

I'm so into the clear nail/colored tip trend right now. I tried this look with China Glaze Starboard, which I then topped with OPI Fresh Frog of Bel Air. St. Patrick's Day is about 2 weeks away and I thought the color was appropriate. This look is pretty easy to get. Just remember to wait 5 minutes in between each nail lacquer layer and always finish with a fast drying topcoat. And like I said before, the key to having a great looking tip is not trying to curve the polish with your nail. Just paint it straight across and clean it up with a second coat of polish.
